The disintegration of joint family system and both husband & wife working, has affected the holistic development of people in the society during the current century.

To consider various approaches to overcome this malady, a meeting of practicing counsellors was convened at Loyola College of Social Sciences, Trivandrum by Fr.M.K.George S.J. in 1990. In this meeting an idea evolved that a registered body of counsellors be formed. This task was entrusted with Fr.Varghese Pudussery CMI, Ph.D., Director of Santhwana Institute of Counselling and Psychotherapy, Ernakulam. This professional forum was registered in 1992 at Ernakulam, under the Travancore - Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act 1955 with register no. ER 344/92

in the name of 'Kerala Counsellors' Forum' with qualified committed persons and institutions as its members. We have more than 1200 counsellors as our members. The main objectives of KCF are to work as a professional body of counsellors to promote wholesome growth of individuals and to help disturbed families. KCF is also organizing various training programmes periodically on Counselling related subjects. This has now grown as a common forum for its members who are qualified counsellors to meet frequently and to interact on various current counselling themes.
The KCF registered office is at Santhwana Institute of Counselling & Psychotherapy, Chittoor Road, Kacheripady, Ernakulam. It has chapters in Kannur, Trichur, Mumbai, Kottayam and Idukki
